RSS is one tool.  You might also want to post something to Twitter and Facebook - they are important social media.

The canonical reference on RSS is available here.   Please read that over and post back with any specific questions.

Hi Ray,
thank you for the article which explained a number of concepts I was unsure about.

My specific question might be?

After creating a new page in the CMS
Can I use RSS to allow my Blog to automatically pick up and post that new content

thanks

Can I use RSS to allow my Blog to automatically pick up and post that new content  Hmm...

That sounds kind of backwards in a cart-before-the-horse way.

An RSS feed is a specialized XML file.  It is just a string of data.  As such it does not "do" anything - it just sits there.  RSS readers have a timer and when the timer goes off, they look at all the URLs of the RSS XML files that they are subscribed to.  They read the current XML string and compare it to their stored XML string.  If one of the XML files has changed, they jump up and down to tell the client that a new RSS feed is available.

So I think the best way to characterize the relationship between the CMS and the blog would be to suggest that when you create a new page in the CMS, you might have the CMS make an automated post to the blog.  The blog, upon receiving a new post (whether from you or from an automated external source), might create a new XML string and store it at the URL of your RSS feed.  Your subscribers' RSS readers will pick up on the fact that a new RSS file has appeared.

Does that make sense to you?

I will explore the option of posting my cms update to google blogspot

I  wasn't ware that you could do that or are you suggesting that if it could be done, that is the way to go?

What are you using to write your blogs?  IIRC Wordpress and Blogger both have easy-to-use RSS feeds.

OK, what is your CMS?  Maybe it has an RSS plug-in?

Yes, unless you already have a high level of skill to write programming in the native language of the CMS, hiring a professional programmer would almost certainly be the best way to get this done.
