How can I connect a Mac OS X 10.6.4 laptop to a shared Windows XP USB printer?

This printer plugs into the Windows XP computer using a USB cable and has been given a share name.

Its share name is \\computername\hp.

How can I make it so that a Mac OS X 10.6.4 laptop will be able to print to this Windows XP shared printer?

You need a CUPS printer driver in order to use the standard CUPS print comm protocols (Windows Printing/smb, for example). The driver from HP is for USB only.
Install hpijs (all 3 parts):
http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/hpijs
