What kind of motherboard is installed in your computer?

You can use Belarc Advisor at http://www.belarc.com to figure it out without opening up your box and trying to find the printing directly on the motherboard.
Is that for a card reader, if yes what brand or name or serial number?
If not any of the above what is the device you connecting?

try this.. It should fix your problem.

in the device manager click on view at the top and in the dropdown
show hidden devices
then uninstall all listed usb items
turn the computer off
unplug usb plugs
reboot twice
replug in the usb plugs
go to : http://driveragent.com/b/archive/09ad8219/Realtek-USB2.0-Card-Reader-Driver

download the driver install and all should work fine

XP should have bundled with the driver as it is a generic device. Try to attach the USB device to another computer to see whether it is a hardware failure.
You can download the driver for that here.

Download the driver genius software and run it. It will show you all missing drivers list and install button. If you click install button it will search all listed drivers on the internet and install drivers on your machine.

The driver I posted might not work by running setup.exe but it should work if you install it manually with the Hardware Update Wizard.
Thanks
