Disconnects

I have a few users who go out into the field and use the application side of Xenapp. Recently they've been complaining that they've been getting kicked off of the server periodically during the day. The strange thing is that users who have WindowsXP laptops are not having the problem. Only users with Windows7 machines.

From what I've been told, the disconnects happen whether they're connected through air cards or LAN lines. It also happens when idle or working so there's really nothing specific that we can tie it to.

Does Windows7 have some kind of setting that I'm not aware of that could be resetting the connection every so often? Outside of the OS, the machines are virtually identical with the programs installed.

This is a long shot but have you tried updating the NIC and WIFI drivers on the 7 machines? Also, are they using hotel internet to do this? I understand the problem is happening on wired and wireless connections but do you have any information as to the quality of their connection?

I dont think citrix will disconnect from a temporarily dropped connection.  Is there some idle connection time that has maybe been set for the older clients which havent been set for the more recently added clients?

They're actually on corporate LAN or using Verizon air card.

I found something that recommended going to Device Manager, Network adapters, right click on your adapter, select Properties, Power Management and make sure there is no tick in the top box. The top box lets the LAN card go to sleep to save power.

Not sure if that will really help long term.

sharpting,

An idle timeout was what I was thinking initially but they're claiming it happens while they're working on the machines, not when it's just been sitting there.

I have a Windows7 machine I'm running some tests on. I'm going to connect through an air card and open a program and see if I get disconnected.
maybe try and connect with the webapp plugin to see if the client is having some compatibility issues/local settings causing the drop outs

Sorry,

Should have mentioned that they're using the webapp to access the programs.
Which version? Try to clear the temporary internet files down and increase the allocated space for temp files.  Long shot but I find clearing the temp files fixes alot of problem on the webapp

Have you ever heard of a server-side communication driver?

Someone called over to another firm that we're close to and a guy in their IT department said to update the communication driver. I didn't talk to him so I just assumed he was talking about the client side. The guy who talked to him claims it's an update that should be run on the server.

hmmm, Sorry not aware of a server side comms driver.  If you dont have your answer by monday I will try to remember to ask our citrix guy at work
