VirtualBox Mac Host Raw Access

Trying to gain raw access to usb disk formatted ntfs with Tuxera NTFS to install W7 x64 from OS X 10.6 VBox 4. I have the w7.vmdk but I can't open the disk... error: VERR_SUPLIB_WRITE_NON_SYS_GROUP. This clearly has something to do with permissions. Ideas?

virtualbox binaries have overbroad permissions g+w gid <>0  (if looking at source code)
run disk tool and reverify permissions.
