How do we replace signup in our app with facebook connect signup?

Hi,

I have a game application for mobile. When a user signs up, I put them into a database table like this:

    id | email | username | password_hashed | etc

I know we can use facebook connect to let users "signup" for our apps, letting them skip the tedium of filling out our standard signup forms (mine has email, password fields, etc etc). If the users "signs up" with facebook connect, how do we merge that in with users that sign up with the "standard" method?

I'm guessing I'd add another field to my users table, which just stores facebook_id. If they signup with connect, I don't have any need for their email or a password, so those fields will be empty:

    id   | email                 | username | password_hashed | optional_fb_id
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
     1     john@doe.com    john                 xyz                          null
     2     null                       mary               null                           789

So user "john" signed up the "normal" way, he had to give me his email and a password to identify him. Mary signed up with facebook connect, all I store is her facebook id. In both cases, they need to give me a username (just an app requirement). The signup flow was quicker for Mary, she just had to pick a username.

Is that the basic idea?

Thanks

Yes, that's the basic idea.  You might find this site helpful: http://www.goldsteintech.com/facebook_connect/overview.php.
