HP Systems Insight Manager

HP SIM when configured to work with HP System Management Home Page (the client).
we can get alert about the power supply /disk Drives / Network Adapters /Heart Beat,etc.... failures
I wonder why sometimes admins configure the iLO to send traps to HPSIM ? what would it do different than the tandem HPSIM/HP System Management Home page?
I have also seen, admins downloading Firmware and burn it to a CD, and boot HP servers with the CD and install the firmware.I thought the tandem HPSIM/HP System Management Home page can do that, when Version Control repository is configured.

Any HP expert out there to clear it up

Thanks

HP Systems Insight Manager 6.x installed on a server, gives you a complete overview of ALL your HP equipment (Servers, Networking) in your infrastructure.

The HP SIM homepage, just gives the information on a single server, if you have to go round and access every single URL for every server to check health and inventory, it would take a while, so implementing HP SIM on a server, interfaces with ALL the HP equipment on your LAN, inventories, and checks it's health.

By using SMNP and sending alerts/traps to HP SIM, warns you immediately of pending faults.

If version control is correctly used it can automatically downloads the latest BIOS, driver, and agent updates for ProLiant and Integrity servers running Windows and Linux. Identifies systems running out-of-date systems software and enables system software updates across groups of servers.

Why don't Admins use it, because they've not implemented HP SIM Server, don't understand it, wont to waste time, don't understand service etc etc

If you have many HP servers that your manage, it's worth the time to set it up.

and it's FREE!
