I am having this problem on install sharepoint 2010 on my machine, I uninstalled and tried again
I tried creating the registry key and restarting, it didnt work.

Just FYI, when I uninstalled sp 2010 the first time I had english, dutch and french langauge packs, but when I uninstalled I uninstalled only sp 2010, dont know if the language packs had to be uninstalled first as well?

Failed to create the configuration database.

Hi there give the below a go

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2002277

To resolve this problem follow the steps below:

Important This article contains information about how to modify the registry. Make sure that you back up the registry before you modify it. Make sure that you know how to restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up, restore, and modify the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

256986 Description of the Microsoft Windows registry
1.) Open Registry Editor

2.) Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\12.0

3.) Create a new Key under 12.0 called ServerLanguage

4.) Right-click ServerLanguage, select new String value and give it a name of 1033

Note: 1033 is valid for US English.  To determine the appropriate language value for other languages, see the following web site:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc824907.aspx

5.) Close the Registry Editor

6.) Re-run the "SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard"

Sorry that was not much help. The great search engine that google is did not come up with any fresh views on your issue.

When I hit qwerky bugs like these I tend to get impatient and wipe the slate clean. I do love vmware in that regard.

Otherwise I hope someone else has a proper answer for you.

Best of luck
