Stale mailboxes in Exchange 2003 after migration to Exchange 2007

After a successful migration there are still some mailboxes on the exchange 2003 server. These mailboxes are marked as deleted in the Exchange 2003 system manager.
On Exchange 2007 these mailboxes are there also and working ok.

I cannot purge these mail boxes. I get then a error message, see attached file.

How can I cleanup? Now the exchange 2003 will not un-install.

what you are facing are called ghost mailboxes and they are totally "normal" as in known issue.

if all your mailboxes have been migrated and are now working fine what you should do is the following

from the server running windows 2008 run adsiedit.msc -> connect to the CONFIGURATION partition -> service-> exchange -> organization name -> administrative groups -> First admin group (or whatever the name) -> servers -> find your 2k3 server -> expand it -> find the information store -> find your mailbox database and delete it

make sure to delete ONLY your mailbox database
