Does anyone know of a good free utility that I can put on my laptop to pinpoint the position of a wireless access point?

I have a site where the acces points are buried in a drop ceiling and no one ever documented their placement.

Tracking down an access point will not be easy; inSSIDer, netstumbler, and other tools will indicate the signal strength of a transmitter, but there is not a software package that will give you an exact location without some type of triangulation. So be prepared to spend some time with any software package you have.

I completely agree with the comment from rfc1180. you can capture the packets and signals strengths comming from the access points but it is not easy to physically locate them. You can get an idea for example if moving in a certain direction gives you increase in the signal strength.

I used Net Stumbler but it was as effective as INssider. Thanks for the replies back. Access point found
