"SIP clients register with the IP PBX server when they wish to make a call they ask teh IP PBX to establish the connection."

I am trying to get an clear understanding for how the call flow from 1 client (IP PHONE) to another another through the PBX.

Hi

The Hardware based phones or soft Phones initially register with the IP PBX server.
When they want to communicate they request the server for establishing the connection. The IP PBX has a directory or the database of all phones or users with the corresponding SIP Address. When the request is place from the IP Phone, the IP address is first resolved to the Sip Address or extension No. in the IP PBX and then it is routed to the destination. Thus the routing of the internal calls directly and the routing of the external calls through VOIP Gateway is done. Analog Station Gateway allows fax machines to be connected to IP PBX. Analog Trunk Gateway allows the IP PBX to connect to the PSTN or PBX. Digital Trunk Gateway supports both digital T1/E1 connectivity to the PSTN and conferencing.

and here are more details on call flow sequences described in the following links:

i wish this will answer your question ..
