confusing processors chooices

hi,

i want to build a high end office machine. a work station.
we are definately not gamers. we are accountants.
which processors will i waist money on... which will never give me benefit.

if i have it right, in the " I " series....
the 3 & 5 are dual core and the 7 is quad?   do i have that basic fact right.

the confsuing thing, is that they are all sold with varying  speeds....
i know i am going with 32 bit and 4 gig of memory. i have been buying asus  P7h55-M Pro..

 http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0326528

i am only choosing this MOBO because i have so many of them...

this board has video, but i am also told some chips will not work support video....
can someone break this down a bit for me?

perhaps we can get a simple discussion going?

The i3 is dual core, the i5 has dual and quad core and some also have hyperthreading, the i7's come in 2 different sockets and all are quad core with hyperthreading. With 32-bit and 4gb ram only ~3-3.5gb will be usable. Only the core i3's have intergrated video. If you get the faster i5 or i7 you will need a video card.

so then as far as graphics go... ( and I  only need  office , not gaming) am i right that although the MOBO has integrated video, it will not work with the I5 or I7, and i will have to buy a card in addition tothe MOBO .

The motherboard doesn't have intergrated graphics, just the ports the gpu is built into the cpu.

one last one....

in an office environment where we are accountants....

do you see any value in the qud cores.... we are not gamers or streamers.

will the system pop any faster?

is the system calling for resources that i am not aware of ...

If you have alot of programs open then quad core will offer an advantage. If you only have a few at a time then you won't notice much of a difference.

see ,

what is a lot....
typically... Remote desk top, office, and MS IE  browser, maybe internet radio...

how does that stack up?

jamietonerCommented:
An i3 should be able to handle that without issue.

Just to add I have found that there are now some i5's that have the built in gpu so you are not limited to just the i3's if you want to use the ports on the motherboard.

Here is a quick list of core i5's only 3 of them don't have graphics.

first off fantastic list...

but it is confusing... some have a 4 mg cahe, and others have a 8 mg

do i need the 8 mg.....
are they all dual core... how woul di know which are quad core?

jamietonerCommented:
All the core i5's with an integrated gpu are dual core, the gpu takes the space of where the other 2 cpu cores would be. the cpu's with the 8mb cache will offer a performance advantage over their 4mb brethren.
