Users on Terminal Server cannot view or add notes

All users accessing GP10 via Terminal Server suddenly cannot view or add notes for any record or window.  When they click any note button in a window (tied to a vendor ID, for example or a note for the window itself), a taskbar item labelled ".Note" (with a dot) appears, but is not accessible.  Users cannot right-click to restore the .Note window, or Alt-Tab to find it hidden anywhere behind another window.  The window just does not appear anywhere. We do not have a customized version of the Note window, despite the dot appearing in the taskbar item.

Terminal server is 64-bit 2008.  Users logging into GP on the main app server or another terminal server do not experience the problem, but they do also see a dot to the Note window title (but not on the taskbar item).

Checking the SY03900 table, the note data seems to be intact, and if the note does contain data, the note icon in the window is yellow.

Hello,

I've attached a screenshot of what many users are seeing.  Please note that this is an example of a third-party application window running in GP, but the same is happening for any GP notes window as well.

Notes window not available on screen
Since I first posted the question, we've found out more information.  It seems this may be a display issue related to window position.  For most users, when they "restore" their GP window from maximised view, the Notes window can then be viewed.  It looks like there's an issue with the position of the open Notes window when GP is maximized.  It's opening outside the normal desktop area.

While in "restored" mode, some users can drag the Notes window to a new, more central position, maximize GP again, and the next time a Notes window is opened, it is then visible.  However, this is not working for all TS users.  Some report the same problem when opening Notes from a maximized GP window.

Try this.

Add the Note window to VBA, in VBA go to the Note node under Microsoft Dynamics GP node, and paste the following in the right side of VBA:

Private Sub Window_AfterOpen()
   Note.Left = 0
   Note.Top = 0
End Sub


This code forces the Note window to open in the visible area (visible area of the Main Window which called the Note window).

It forces the Note window move to the left-upper corner of Dynamics GP Home Page.

I've just discovered more suitable method:

The Note window position is saved in the Dex.ini (NoteWindow= 0, 0, 450, 299), you can modify it there or create a loging script to overwrite dex.ini in order to initiate the Note window to the proper position.

Please note that the Note window position (X, Y) in Dex.ini starts from the Menu bar, it's not as it is in VBA. The first two values (0, 0) are the X, Y of the upper left corner of the window, while the other two values are for the width and length of the window.

Thank you for your second response.

I've passed both these resolutions along to the IT group responsible for making such changes.  They haven't decided to implement them, but in the meantime found that if all TS users logged out, then a single sa user logged in and repositioned the Notes window, it was staying put for all users.

They now know, however, then if it does move "out of range" again, that they can do the same workaround again.  They may decide, down the road to use one of those more permanent solutions after testing it first.
