I have successfully installed SQL Reporting Services 2008  on my SQL Server 2008  server, and also installed the add-on for SharePoint 2010, which was installed on my SharePoint server.  I am able to browe - from both the SQL Server & SharePoint server - to the integrated mode reports server:

And in here, I see the listing of all of my SharePoint sites.

However... if I attempt to view a report through the SharePoint UI or edit a data connection, I get the following error:

An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is available and configured for SharePoint integrated mode. --> The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this?

this sounds like double hop, and the solution is to enable kerberos.

you can read more about double hop here:
