If I install rayslog do I need to remove the default syslog?

They provide the same basic service and can not run at the same time.<br />
You do not have to remove syslog, but you would need to make sure syslog is not configured to run (chkconfig syslog off).

I have centos 5.5 x86_64 installed on a server running zimbra and by default it used syslog which i beleive was part of os installation defaults. however I have been reading that rsyslog seems to be the popular choice to use. <br />

Can i change from syslog to rsyslog and use this with my zimbra instalation? It is 7.0 and how would I switch loging softwares and not screw things up.<br />
