Relationship between Deep Zoom Composer and Expression?

I just downloaded Deep Zoom Composer and found there seems to be a relationship with Expression.  What's that relationship?

I know Expression is licensed. If Deep Zoom Composer free to use?  Does the licensed version of Expression add capabilities to Deep Zoom Composer free version?

I read that Deep Zoom is Open Source.  What's that mean? Is the source code available?

Microsoft Expression Studio (which is what I assume you're referring to) is a set of design toold for creating silverlight applications.

Deep Zoom Composer is an application that allows you to prepare images for use with the Deep Zoom feature in Expression.

As far as I can make out, the only relationship between the two is that you could create Depp Zoom with Expression.

Deep Zoom, as far as I can see, is a set of methods in silverlight and so is not technically open source but is usable within applications that you create.  It does seem that Deep Zoom Composer is free to use.
