I just bought this book and haven't had a chance to go through it yet, but it has "Certification Practice" questions at the end of each chapter; "Sams Teach Yourself Java 6 in 21 Days", Authors Rogers Cadenhead and Laura Lemay.

I earned SCJP for 1.5  I only read this one book http://www.amazon.com/Certified-Programmer-Study-310-055-Certification/dp/0072253606 and used the experience I had with working with Java.

I expect that 1.6 would be the same.   If I were going for SCJP 1.6 now I'd just read the next edition of the book.  http://www.amazon.com/SCJP-Certified-Programmer-Java-310-065/dp/0071591060/ref=dp_ob_title_bk

The questions from it were pretty well balanced throughout the book.

I already work in Java and felt confident in the areas I work mostly, so I focused my studying on the things I don't do much already.   But I did read the entire book.
