we are just setting up iphones to access our exchange server 2003
but the ipad and iphone do not allow ipaddress/exchange as we have it set up for our OWA currently, Never seemed an issue and worked.
what do I need to do to get exchange.joe.com posted publicly pointing to our exchange server instead of the external ip address that we have now.

Please have a read through my Exchange 2003 / Activesync article:

You need to use the FQDN / IP address that matches your certificate name.  If your certificate is an IP address, use an IP address - otherwise the FQDN on your certificate needs to resolve to your servers address in DNS (thus if it is a .local FQDN on your certificate - you need to change the certificate name).
