Redesing an existing website with Dreamweaver template

We have an website with adreamweaver template. We need to redesign the the website to make it more attractive. Not sure how this would work . Could we design an new template and apply it to the existing pages somehow.?

Hi netcomp,

You could redesign the template and any changes you make to it will be reflected to the child pages.  The caveat to this is that you cannot mess with the editable areas all that much because once the editable area is defined and content published, it behaves differently than the rest of the template.

Depending on the number of pages involved, this may be an excellent opportunity to remove your pages from the Dreamweaver template system altogether.  Templates are cumbersome and never quite work right.  We design sites using includes in place of templates and are much happier with the result.

Includes are a way of calling pieces of code into a document.  Typically you use a server-side scripting language to do it (like PHP or ASP) but you can also use plain old Apache SSI calls.

It would have the same basic effect as using a DW Template but gives you a lot more flexibility with a lot fewer bugs.
