We have 5 very small regional offices that up until now have been managing their own backups using NT backup with Win 2003, backing up to DTA tape. We are putting in new 2008 servers and I understand that the native backup does not backup to tape, disk only. Anyone know of any freeware backup software that would work on 2008 and backup to tape? Second choice is something very cheap. Very basic backups, between 20-25 GB nightly. Just MS office docs and pdf docs, nothing complicated like SQL or Exchange.

Tough one - the one choice might be Backula - http://www.bacula.org/en/
since you are simply doing files.

Bacula is not a Windows solution. It doesn't compile nor works in Windows.
