Hi all,

I'm installing a MediaWiki.

The Wiki setup can't connect to the DB (on a remote system. The error is:

Attempting to connect to database server as root...failed with error [1130] Host 'appserver' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server.

I have run the oft-quoted command:
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO root@'mysqlhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'password';

But to no effect. Can anyone advise?

You need to grant access to the requesting source host

GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO root@'appserver' IDENTIFIED BY 'password';

obviously substituting 'appserver' with appserver's IP address... :)
