What are the things I should be wary of when considering downloading apps from iTunes using a different iTunes account.

Scenario:
Qty 4 iPhones
Qty 2 iPhones
Qty 1 iTunes accounts (currently)
Qty 4 individual users

(please don't answer this question yet... I don't know how to save this to submit at a later time...

Yes you can, the main issue will be when it comes time to updating the apps, it will ask for the iTunes username and password of who you originally downloaded it as.

AsifC, is there not a chance of having apps erased?  Based on my Googling, it seems that that has been the warning.

It sounds like I might need to update the apps individually instead of the 'update all' (which is not a problem).

I haven't had that experience. Since I am not in the US, I created a second account which lets me access the US iTunes store. I can see updates to apps from both accounts, but I need to login as the second user to update either on my iPhone or in iTunes.

If you need to use another account to buy the apps, then put them on your iPad then just gift them.

In the iTunes account that needs to buy the app, choose to give the app. It will let you send an email or create a coupon. Either way, get the coupon code.
Then go to your laptop or iPad iTunes. Go to "redeem", put in the coupon code and the app is yours.

It is tied to your account so it always updates.

dexmach,
that is an interesting approach!  I may have to try that.
