Hello experts

Im a bit new to vb.net 2008 and have been asked to write an app that works with active directory to assist with administration. Im not sure if its possible, but id like to be able to populate a combo box (Or other drop down box if necessary) with a list of users as you type in it (So like an autocomplete). Would this be possible using a directorysearcher object and combo box ? And if so could someone post how I would do it. Any help is greatly appreciated

depending on the size of the AD it might not be a good idea since having thousands of users in a dropdown will be slow and not an ideal way of idnetifying which of the 30 "smiths" you actually want.

also populating the list initially can take quite a while, and although it can be cached you then have to figure out how to handle refreshes (i.e. new users created in AD since last query)

rather go for an initial search result based on some criteria to limit the returned result

research the ANR attribute in AD
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/243299/EN-US

and how attributes can be added to this to make searching easier in AD domain.
