batch image dimension resizing utility

I need to do sort of a reverse crop on 100s of images.

Say I had an image that is 200 x 300 in size.

I want to change the canvas or background to be 300x300 with the original image in the middle. Basically I want to add a 300 x 300 white image behind the original. This would result in a new 300 x 300 image without effecting the way the original image looks.

Anyone know of a utility that can do this?

This might help.

Canvas size - Editing canvas size lets you add or remove workspace around an existing image. You can crop it by reducing the width and height (pixels) of canvas area. If needed, you can also change the workspace color using the 'Background color' option. The 'Anchor' option lets you choose the position of your image on the workspace.
