Should you apply patches to the Oracle EBS VISION demo installation?

I was always taught that the Oracle EBS VISION demo installation was, just that, for demonstration purposes. It should not have patches applied to it as it is in a stable state and is only for demonstrating and exploring the features of a particular version of EBS. Am I right? Why or why not?

General consensus is that the application of patches on a VISION instance is to become familiar with all of the problems that could arise during said patch application. For instance some of the HR/Payroll patches or ATG patches could really impact a lot of the system functionality. Therefore someone would want to learn by testing in an instance that is far more complicated then your own production instance.

While many of my clients have multiple non-production instances, we always perform ATG patching, database upgrade, EBS point release patching, and major version upgrades to a VISION instance before we even try on a client's non-production instance.

Lastly, if you use the VISION instance for demoing then I would suggest putting it on a maintenance schedule just like any other instance. Your sales folks would want to demo the latest release most of the time.
