Windows XP and SPSS question - .SPS syntax file auto-launches SPSS whenever I download a file - how to stop auto-launching

I have SPSS 19 (statistical software) running on my Windows XP desktop.  There is an online site where I download both a data file and an SPSS Syntax file, which is basically a program file that SPSS uses, it has the extension .SPS
Whenever I download the .SPS file from any of my web browsers, instead of just saving the file to my computer, SPSS always tries to open the file.  I don't want SPSS to open at all.  I just want to save the file without it auto-launching this software.  How can I stop SPSS from launching every time I download an .SPS syntax file?

Assuming you are using IE:
go to internet options > security > internet >custom level> in the download section (scrolling down)
select automatically prompt for file download

This will give you the ability to save the file somthere on your pc or open it.

Thanks for your suggestion!

I typically use Chrome or Firefox -- do you happen to know how to change this same setting in those browsers?
