Windows XP and SPSS question - .SPS syntax file auto-launches SPSS whenever I download a file - how to stop auto-launching
I have SPSS 19 (statistical software) running on my Windows XP desktop. There is an online site where I download both a data file and an SPSS Syntax file, which is basically a program file that SPSS uses, it has the extension .SPS
Whenever I download the .SPS file from any of my web browsers, instead of just saving the file to my computer, SPSS always tries to open the file. I don't want SPSS to open at all. I just want to save the file without it auto-launching this software. How can I stop SPSS from launching every time I download an .SPS syntax file?

I typically use Chrome or Firefox -- do you happen to know how to change this same setting in those browsers?
