I am having issues with my search server on my 2007 farm.  I am trying to stop the services in central administration but they are hung on "stopping".  I tried adding another search server to the farm but the windows sharepoint services web application is running on the current one.  I am hesitant to stop it since the others have hung on "stopping".  any thoughts?

I would reboot the server during after hours and stop the windows services again.

You could find the search service in the services MMC and stop/restart it there.

Start > Run > services.msc

Scroll through the list
Right click stop/restart etc.

Both of our solutions would work though.
