My first line or two of the coldfusion 8 error output to the browser is jumbled, difficult to read. I've tried different computers, different browsers, and changed all settings in cfadmin I can think of but can't find one which will fix this.

See my attached screenshot for the problem. Screenshot of jumblied debug error output to browser

Use Firebug on FF to check it out, there is some CSS of your code that is mixing up with the cfdebug CSS..

any body tags affects the cfdebug as well... as it is just HTML with it's own formatting.

You can also use <cftry> <cfcatch> blocks and then output the errors that are caught...

<cftry>

<cfcatch type="any">
  <cfoutput>#cfcatch.detail# - #cfcatch.message# </cfoutput>
</cfcatch>
</cftry>

For database exceptions you can use

<cftry>
YOUR CODE HERE
<cfcatch type="database">
  <cfoutput>
              #cfcatch.message# - #cfcatch.NativeErrorCode# - #cfcatch.SQLState# - #cfcatch.Sql# - #cfcatch.queryError# </cfoutput>
</cfcatch>
</cftry>
