I have a template i am using that has a flash page that links to an xml page. when i click on the images it opens the url on the same page the xml code looks like

<image imageUrl="_pic01.jpg" link="http://www.madelinesacs.com"/>

I have tried <image imageUrl="_pic01.jpg" link="http://www.madelinesacs.com" target="_blank"/>

and is does the same thing. So I looked in the flash source and i am thinking that the source is telling it to open in the same page. The action script code looks like this;

onClipEvent (load) {
      imageProperties=_root.getCurrentImageName(0);
      loadMovie(_root.url+imageProperties['name'], this.cont.cont1);
      url=imageProperties['linkToOpen'];

}

How can i get these image links to work.

Try this:
<a href="http://www.madelinesacs.com" target="_blank"><image imageUrl="_pic01.jpg"/></a>

Though I am not sure how you are accessing the url in onClipEvent load method.
