1) What do I need to check to fix Search?

2) Where can I learn more about SharePoint Search? Sites? Books? I need to become a search expert to maintain a high grade Intranet.

3) I launched a new public facing site with a separate SharePoint Web App (but on the same single-server farm as my Intranet) so how do I get Search to query only that Web App for Visitors (assuming I can fix Search from question #1)

1. Did you run a successful crawl?
2. Best book I've read:  http://www.amazon.com/Inside-Index-Search-Engines-PRO-Developer/dp/0735625352/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1299499462&sr=8-1
3. Look into search scopes

As it turns out, there are other farm-level problems. We had to open a ticket with Microsoft. On the phone for a week and they still can't fix it.
