SBS 2008 backup errors

SBS 2008 setup to backup every night at 11PM to an external USB drive. The backup do take place but only at the 5th try? Why?

This has happened every night so far. Backup error

Do you have another external backup drive you can try, or does it happen on multiple drives?
The log I see shows VSS before and after, I think if it's not the drive, VSS may be suspect.
Let me know about the drives.

Check out this link--I think this is your problem--Exchange logs are causing the issue:

"Well, you can change to circular logging on the database properties and then dismount and mount

Then the logs should be gone, then try to take a full backup again

But when that's done change it back so  you will have the full log set if anything goes wrong

Also when you've changed it back to "normal" transaction logs, start a full backup and verify that it works
