Dynamics CRM 2011 Mobile Express

I'm wondering if anyone might know how to change the default view of a related entry on the mobile view from Dynamics CRM 2011? Any related entities show up using the default "Active" view for the related entity.

For example, if I have an entity (projects let's say) that is related to Accounts, and I enable the mobile views, then both show up on the PDA. Under the Accounts form, I see a related entry for Projects. However, the default view that it uses is "Active Projects". I was hoping I might be able to show both active and inactive projects, but I'm not sure if I can change the default view.

I imagine there is an XML file somewhere that could be edited to allow this to happen, however, I can't find it.

Any leads?

Cheers,

Dave

Hi dmaslen,

You could just edit the Active Projects view and it should reflect the changes you are looking for. You can do it form Advanced Find itself.

Chinmay,

If I change the Active Projects view, this will be reflected in both the application (web and outlook) and mobile express. I don't want it changed in the application.

I only want to customize the view being pushed out to mobile express. That is the challenge.

Dave
Hi Dave,

Oh!!! That'd be a tricky one. I don't think that would be possible in a straight forward manner.
How critical this is for your current implementation?

Hi Chinmay,

It is not the end of the world if I can't do this, but it would be nice to be able to customize the mobile views separately from the application views.

I figured it wouldn't be an easy fix. I thought maybe there was a way to edit the XML for the mobile view.

Dave

Hi Chinmay,

That makes sense to me, and would serve the purpose nicely.

Do consider performance cost tho.

The cost of performance vs. the cost of purchasing a 3rd party plug-in is worth it. :)

:) ahaha... I totally agree with you but I was thinking... we could give it some more thought and come up with something even better and managable. But I don't have access to a CRM 2011 environment so it is difficult to come up with a practical solution[without R&D I can't make it].

I'm wondering if 4.0 with the Mobile Express add-on is similar to 2011. I bet it is, so you may be able to test on a 4.0 deployment with the Mobile Express add-on?

They integrated Mobile Express in to 2011, but I honestly don't know how much they changed.

I unfortunately, don't have a 4.0 deployment to test antmore. :)

Dave
No.. This is client environment.. I can't do anything here..maybe I can try once I'm home. In the mean time you can try building the plugin.
