I am planning to use the HP link above to get the HP Warranty.
I will have to enter Serial Number and Product Number.
I can get the Serial number for all my  computers but cannot get the Product Number.
is there any script that I can run to retrieve the Product number for my HP computers?
Most of my computers are running Windows OS .

Thanks

I don't have any to try it on, but I got this info of the web:

There are 3 different registry keys depending on the type of HP machine you have. Look in all three places.

KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\HardwareDescription\ProductNumber

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\BIOS\SystemSKU

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\System Properties\productnumber

In a DOS batch file, there is the "REG" command.   (REG /HELP in a command window to see options)

Try these.  One or more should give interesting output.   We can discuss extracting the info you need from the output once we have it raw.

reg query KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\HardwareDescription\ProductNumber

reg query HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\BIOS\SystemSKU

reg query HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\System Properties\productnumber

reg query KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\HardwareDescription /v ProductNumber

reg query HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\BIOS /v SystemSKU

reg query HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\System Properties /v productnumber

these 2 above links are very helpful. Thanks a lot

sjklein42:
how do you use your reg query script to retrieve the info?
do put all the commands in a batch file and run it? does the info get displayed on the screen?

Yes, put all the commands in a batch file and run it.

and Yes, the info get displayed on the screen.

Put those lines into a batch file ( getProdNum.bat ).

Run it from inside a DOS command window.  The output is shown in that window.  We can save it to a file if that is easier.

If you post the output here I can help filter out the noise once we see what it looks like.

Well that didn't find anything.

Please try this set of commands.  I fixed a few problems.  Maybe it will find something this time.

reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\BIOS" /v SystemSKU
reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\BIOS\SystemSKU"
reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\HardwareDescription" /v ProductNumber
reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\HardwareDescription\ProductNumber"
reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\System Properties" /v productnumber
reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\System Properties\productnumber"

Hi.

I don't have any HP PCs so those registry keys are not on my machines.  I was going by the info on this page:

http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/100054

The only thing I can suggest at this point is to run regedit and Search the entire registry for "Hewlett-Packard" to see if there even is such a key on your HP machines.

I am pretty sure the HP registry entries won't be there unless you have the HP-OEM version of the OS.
