exmerge on exchange 2003 failing

hi,
i have a few mailboxes i need to make into pst for archiving.  i have tried to open them in outlook and the export as a pst but 'an unknown error occurred'

next, i am trying to use exmerge.  it fails instantly and the log file says:

thanks, it is running now.  will wait just to check it does not error while exporting.
exmerge has finished with no errors.

the PST is 2.1GB, but the mailbox is 2.4GB.  Does the PST use compression as well?

i see, presumably this limitation does not apply when exporting as a PST from outlook 2010?

also, do you know of a way to find the earliest message in the mailbox?
correct, the limitation does not apply if using Outlook 2010.

As for the earliest message, just use outlook and sort by date?
