Configure cisco switch
Guys. I am brand new to cisco networking but I am keen to pick it up ad learn. In our organization we have cisco catalyst switches running two vlans. I have just bought a new switch to install within our network. I use the cna for administrating the cisco switches including the switching of ports etc so I am comfortable with doing that. The question I need answered is how easy is it to install a new switch. I have used managed and unmanaged pro curve devices but never ha to install any cisco devices. I have trawled google and cisco but nothing gives me a step by step idiot proof guide. Your help would be greatly welcomed. Many thanks

Cheers for the post mate. Surely I would need to configure the switch for both vlans.? I really don't think it's as easy as mounting the switch in the tack cabling it up to the fiber core and the bang bobs your uncle.... Or is it? I have two that need installed. One is to replaced a frazzled switch which was water damaged. The way I see it I need o install then configure. Ip specify static ip address and configure vlan ports. Am I correct and if so any pointers. Sorry if I am making this more complicated thAn it needs to be but I wanti ensure thAt I get it right the first time online with best practices. Cheers

What does hyperterminal say? You see anything? Can you paste what you see in the console for those switches?

All configu within hyper seems. Have a feeling its gbic controller. Any other suggestions guys

Configured and sorted by using internet tutorials.
As soon as you power up and open up the console, you should be able to see "switch>" prompt and from there you go.
You start your configuration, as and when required. If you are looking specifically for some config help, let us know, we will point to thousands of sample configuration available over the internet.
