log into the N299

Hi, I went to log into the N299 and instead of the web interface, I got returned the following page:
404 Not Found
File Not Found

I can still access the drive via network and manage to ping it but what I can't is get into the web interface at all.
Please help.

Thanks

According to the below post, this can be resolved by moving off the data you want to keep, remove the drive, delete all partitions, then reinstall and setup again.  Once complete transfer the data you wanted to keep back to the drive.

Hope that helps.

Hi michko,

I was hopping for something like replacing the "missing file!" kind of thing - sorry about my ignorance!
The way you sugest it sounds like buying a new device and start again ... we are talking about transferring 0.5 Terabytes into a "temp device - which I don't have unless buying one"
If there is no easier solution would you kindly decribe the process in a little more detail - as I said I am not a "guru".
I will assigned the points to yourself then.
Thanks in advance

Hello Duke001.

I was also hoping for a "missing file" or possible a settings adjustment.  Unfortunately, I find very little regarding this error with the N299.  I'm guessing it is not a browser issue, as you can access web sites on the internet, correct?

See if you can obtain the IP address for the N299 using these steps:
1. Start the Setup Wizard, and it will automatically detect all Thecus IP storage products on your network.
2. You should be able to find the IP address of the N299 in the Device Discovery screen.

then type that IP in the address bar of your browser.  See if it accesses the unit.

If you need to you can reset the IP address and admin password by following the directions on page 68 of the manual:
http://www.thecus.com/download/manual/N299_UM_V10_EN.pdf (note - 3MB download).

Try accessing it with the specific IP first, if that doesn't work, try resetting the IP and password.  If still no good, let me know and I can go into detail on moving your data off and setting up the device again.  I can understand why you would want to avoid this option, so lets try the others first.

Thanks, and best of luck.

Hello michko,

I am going to follow your suggestions and I'll let you know.
I am currently at home and the problem refers to the office equipment but I am thing to have a go over the weekend. As promised I will attribute the entire points to you.
Have a nice weekend.
Thanks
No worries Duke001, I'll stick with you until you get it taken care of.

And if another expert comes along and contributes, I won't argue with you assigning points where you see fit.  Most important thing is getting you operational.

Best of luck, and have a good weekend.

Hi michko!

I have done everything suggested but still the same condition:

1) Can see all structure (folders & files) from windows explorer

2) Launching the Thecus Setup Wizard does "find the device" with the IP assigned by me (not the default one) but using the button "Browser" from within this peace of software still showing the "404 Page not Found".

I'm sorry to return so bad news and hope you can find a way to help me to resolve this annoying issue.

Thanks

Duke001,

Hope you had a good weekend, sorry none of my earlier suggestions fixed the issue.

Let's try flushing your dns, it is possible you have a bad entry there that insists on directing it to an invalid IP.  If this doesn't work, we are probably at the transfer files and reinstall from scratch that we've been trying to avoidl

Go to Start -> run and type in "cmd" then hit enter.
Alternatively you can go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories and select "Command Prompt"
This will open a command prompt.
At the command prompt type "ipconfig /flushdns"
This will flush your dns cache.
Reboot and test.

If that doesn't work, do a search on your C: drive for a file named "hosts".  Copy and paste the contents of that file in your reply.  It may have an incorrect entry here that we can correct, or we may be able to add an entry to point it to the right place.

Best of luck.

Hi michko!

I am sorry for the delay but I've just back from a short-break.

I have done what you have suggested but unfortunately no luck!
I am going to "backup" the files onto another server's partition and then I will need your help to guide me through out the process of re-initialize the device.

As soon as I have done the backup I will let you know.

Thanks
Antonio

I'm back from a short-break and ready to proceed with the re-initialization of Thecus N299 as I have backed up all files.
Would you please guide on this?

Thanks in advance.
