Nortel BCM450 with other IP phones?

We currently have a Nortel BCM450 and our IP phones are the 1140e.  It seems these phones are of poor quality and they don't last.
Is it possible to use other brand name IP phones from Cisco or 3com or other brand names?

Some other useful information: We use Win2003 DHCP server and Cisco catalyst POE switches.

It really depends on a lot of things. Some Cisco phone firmware is only compatible with cisco UCMs. I can't speak to 3com phones because I don't manage any. You will find that your administrative overhead will increase substantially when you mix and match phones and phone systems.

My advice is to ditch your BCM completely, and the entire Nortel infrastructure. If you're looking for a small business voip solution, buy cisco phones and a UC520.
