language translation

Hi is anyone aware of a script or program I can set up on my webserver to translate text? I will have millions of tweets and blogs per day to analyze and some will be in various foreign languages, Korean, Japanese, French, German, Spanish and so on. Google's translate API would be good but they limit to 100,000 characters per day and this is much too small.
Thanks.

Almost all of Google's services can be licensed with unlimited (or nearly so) access.  You might want to contact their enterprise team for a price quote.

I am assuming you're interested in near-real-time data mining, something like Twitter "Trending Topics" and for that, your computer-generated translations are probably OK.  However in my experience idiomatic expressions and technical terms do not translate well.  I am reminded of the "hydraulic ram" that got turned into a "water goat" by the English-Russian translation programs.  For better translations, albeit at lower speed, you might consider enlisting the native speakers by using a Wiki design.

But if speed is the central issue and you can tolerate a certain error rate in the translations, automation is probably going to be acceptable.

Good luck with the project, ~Ray
