Getting cursor to be a hand over a Flash screen

I've made a .swf in my HTML clickable by adding

                  onclick="window.location.href='authors.html'"

to either the outside object tag or to the div that contains the object tags. But I can't make the cursor turn to a hand when it rolls over the flash screen, using cursor:pointer; for the div or for the object.  When I give the containing div cursor:pointer; and the div is bigger than the Flash screen, the cursor is a pointer in the div area until the cursor moves over the Flash area and then it turns back to an ordinary arrow.

How can I keep the cursor a hand over the Flash area, to show that it's clickable?

Thanks for any ideas.

It is up to the FLASH application to control the shape of cursor when it is over the FLASH window.  As far as I know, you cannot set the cursor from javascript, only from the FLASH code.

Is the FLASH code yours to change, or do you need to live with what you have?

In Actionscript3:

myMc.buttonMode = true;
myMc.useHandCursor = true;

Open in new window

also, for some discussion about the difference between AS3 and AS2:
