OSx 10.6.6 dock.  Reorder and drag to not working

I am trying to customize my dock.  Having just downloaded the firefox  browser for OSx, I wanted to place the fox on the dock.

Two strange problems.  First, I could not drag the firefox icon to the dock.  Starting from the MacHd/Applications folder in finder, the drag has no effect.  I was able to get the icon on the dock with the shift-command-T keyboard combination, but no drags work from anywhere to put either applications or folders on the dock.  Strange.

Second, after getting the icon to the dock I can't change its position.  Dragging dock icons around just lands them back to their original position.

Sounds like the dock has got locked.

Try typing the following into a terminal window:

defaults write com.apple.dock contents-immutable -bool false
     killall Dock

P.S. You do not have Parental Controls turned on? Right? And you are using an account with admin privileges?

I think you were both onto something.  I logged out, then logged back into the same account and that seemed to resolved all issues.  I can now drag to and reorder the dock.

Interesting about the unlock command.. I was unaware that the dock had a 'lock' feature.
