Importing XML Feed to a Mysql Database/table

Hello Folks,

I am looking for some information to would educate me on how one would go about downloading and inserting .xml data feeds into a mysql database.
Currently I know nothing about the method and would like to learn. the way in which the feeds are available to me is via a url.

e.g: http:mysite.com/mycategory/feedname.xml

A more flexible solution is to use some sort of scripting language (PHP is a popular one) that comes with xml parsing routines, to read in the xml file, parse it and insert the data into one or more tables that match the implied structure of the xml.
