Dropping a CCR - please describe

Can someone describe an automated method of installing the SCCM client known as 'dropping a ccr record'?

CCR are request files placed in the CCR inbox that instruct SCCM to install the client to the computer specified in the CCR. These CCR requests can be manually created and placed in the inbox to deploy the client.

Even though it was designed for SMS 2003 it should work with SCCM:

On a personal note: I would never recommend this method of deployment to anybody. Microsoft has wide range of "approved" client installation methods. You can find more detail on them here:

Thanks Malkaj01.  That makes sense and I am close to accepting.  Just a couple of questions - sorry for the rudimentary nature.

- what event in SCCM generates a .ccr?

Good question. I don't have a strait answer though.

I would have to say it's directly related to the Client Push agent and the Heartbeat Discovery that enables or disables the Install Flag on the computers.

Hope this points you in the right direction.
