sharepoint 3.0 Exporting/backing sharepoint database

I have a SERVER1 running WSS 3.0 and SERVER2 running WSS 3.0. I want to create a top level site on SERVER2 and import the content database from SERVER1. However, I dont know how to backup the content database without backing up the config database, because I wont need it. I just need the content DB. How would I do this. Thanks.

you can do that in several ways, but you could try to back-up only the needed or specified tables separately then run the query on your new server assuming you're using linux + mysql the command you need to do (on the operatins system) is:

mysqldump -u[username] -p[password] --skip-opt --quick [dbname] [tablename1] | gzip -v -9 > /output/directory/[tablename1].sql.gz

it will also archive your dump into a .gz format

I would actually be backing up a SQL Server 2005 content database and restoring it on a SQL Server 2000.

Nevermind. Netstat showed it was getting the database from a different server, thats where my confusion was at. Thanks
