My Sharepoint admin s asking what AD fields they can use for the My Site Section - Edit Profile. Apparently, the Edit Profile fields map to an AD field. Based on some of the fields or data they want in my sites, is there a way to use the sharepoint database versus an AD field in my Sites?

Yes you can add your own fields to the user profiles in central admin, and can map if you want to to AD fields.

After further research, all the fields as mentioned in the solution do not have to map to an AD field.
