I have a client who needs to record commercials and short voice-overs from time to time. He's not very 'computer literate' so I'm looking for a 'user friendly' setup. It's for Windows XP. I know he will have to record, then convert the WAV files into MP3 files so he can email them to sponsors and radio stations. Does anyone have any good suggestions on software, a fire wire unit, the mic, etc.? Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

The simplest good solution for software is Quicktime Pro. The interface is pretty easy to use and for single-track vo's it should work fine. I've used this with an M-Audio Mbox 400 interface before and it worked great. The nice thing about that unit was that it would ghost power the inputs and had XLR as well as RCA inputs. There may be a newer model box from M-audio but their product is good. As for a mic, you'll really have to test what works best for the voice being used. Different mic's are better for different voices and purposes.
