efficient ear piece to listen from desktop

what are the options in the latest offerings for a device to listen to audio from the desktop? are there any wireless options? what is the best in wired?

This is a very broad question as there are all types of options and simply a matter of opinion. For example are you looking for in-ear headphones or on ear or completely cover the ear? There are different actual terms for those but the names escape me right now. Also if you have a good sound card that will affect how good of audio you will hear regardless of headset/headphone. There are one with a regular audio jack and others with their own software and connected via USB. Some have microphones (headsets) and some are just speakers (headphones). Plus there are also just speakers instead of headphones which come in various different sizes and types.

Any chance you could be a little more specific on the question?

I forgot to mention, the main purpose is a factor as far as is this for gaming, watching movies, or just simply listening to music? For gaming I use the Fatality Headset combined with my X-FI sound card and the audio is amazing. Regardless there are a lot of factors to simply just give you the "best" solution.

it is just for listening to audio and in ear would be better than on ear, for obvious reason of being small and less noticeable, with regular audio jack. do these have any better technology than what was 5-10 years ago, for the same purpose devices?

Nowadays some in-ear headphones (known as earbuds) can cost upwards of $300 but I personally think those are overrated. Newegg.com, TigerDirect.com and Amazon.com would be good sites to check out consumer reviews on headphones that are in-ear. Most of those sites on the left hand side allow you to narrow your search for in-ear headphones.
