Got the cover off OK but cannot remove the old disk drive
so I can replace it and donate the computer to a school.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks!

From gateway's website:

http://support.gateway.com/support/manlib/Desktops/8508752/index.htm

It gives very detailed instructions for Opening the case and how to access all the individual components.
