Stop Print Spooler Service.
Navigate to windows\system32\spool\printers.
Delete all spool files.
Start Print Spooler Service.
Try again?

Try a more basic driver (Laserjet 1000 series, maybe, or check HP driver compatibility chart?) to see if the driver is the problem? Basic driver may not give you the features you want but will provide a starting point.

Try an older version of the correct driver for the printer?

Try PCL5e vs PCL6?

The issue was present on several win xp and a 2003 server boxes.

I tried the more basic PCL5e driver it worked well under Win 2003 x64 server and WIN XP Pro. The original driver worked fine under WIN7 Pro 32 bit.
Thank you!

It is amazing to me how even though PCL6 has been around for a lot of years, printer vendors (even HP!) can't seem to get it right. Glad to hear it's sorted for you.
