Add ID to Category navigation in Magento

Hi,

I'm after a way to add an ID or specific class to each category in my top navigation (particularly the parent categories).

When I view the source of my pages, I can see that each of the parent category links are wrapped inside an LI tag. This LI has various classes set, but the ID="". Not sure where or how to set this.

I'd like to be able to individually style each parent category link on the navbar, and need the ID to set a rule in my style sheet.

I'm using Magento Community 1.5.0.1 and I'd prefer a solution that didn't require editing of the core files :)

Thanks in advance

hey the template file for the topnav is in template/catalog/navigation/top.phtml but all it does is call the core which which is here Mage_Catalog_Block_Navigation

could you not style them based on the class?

Not really an answer to the question asked. I wanted to set the ID for each navigation item, but didn't get any suggestions on how to do this.

Thanks anyway
