We are receiving an error message when installing SP3 on a SQL server 2005 install running on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard.  The error we receive is attached to this article below.

Any help resolving this issue would be much appreciated, from what I can see it looks like the authentication is failing however I am unsure how to access the instance to resolve this.  We have tried both SQL and Windows authentication with no prevail.

Regards,
Tristan

From the error message, it is clear that there is a problem with installing Reporting services. So, you should be able to access Database services without any issues.
Please try accessing database services from the Management studio and revert in case of any queries.

Also, please check if the services are in started state for SQL Server (MSSQLServer). If not, please start it and try accessing the instance from Management Studio.

For Reporting Services, I could see that it is configured for a different instance. So, I believe you should be able to connect to SQL Server Management Studio for the default instance without any issues. Please check and revert in case of any errors/queries.

The problem we are having is we are not able to complete the install of SP3 because of this issue so we need a workaround to complete the install or to resolve the error.

To add to my previous post, we dont have any issues with accessing the management studio or databases we are just unable to complete the install of SQL server SP3, I can also add that all the necessary services are running.
